Background

Protein S (PS) is a vitamin K-dependent glycoprotein that acts as a natural anticoagulant. It is synthesized by hepatocytes, endothelial cells, megakaryocytes, testis Leydig cells and in brain. Protein S and APC form the activated protein C (APC) complex, which is responsible for the proteolytic deactivation of activated factors (F) V (Va) and VIII (VIIIa). Protein S is also identified as a cofactor of tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI), which stimulates inhibition of the FXa by TFPI through the APC-independent mechanism[1].

Reconstitution

Stored at -20°C for 2 years from date of receipt. After reconstitution, it is stable at 4°C for 1 week or -20°C for longer (with carrier protein). It is recommended to freeze aliquots at -20°C or -80°C for extended storage.
