Description

Torularhodin is a carotenoid with anti-cancer activity. Torularhodin induces apopotsis of tumor cells and can be used for the study of prostate cancer[1].

In Vivo

Torularhodin (9-18 mg/kg; p.o; every day; for 10 weeks) inhibits the growth of prostate cancer in nude mice and suggest that such an action is associated the apoptosis of tumor cells[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: Four to six-week-old BALB/c nude mice (male, 18-22 g) were subcutaneously injected with PC-3 cells (5 × 105 cells)[1]
Dosage: 9 mg/kg, 18 mg/kg
Administration: p.o; every day; 2 weeks before transplantation; 7 weeks after transplantation
Result: Lowered the mean number of tumors.
Tumor degeneration, apoptosis and necrosis presented at the end of the experiment.
Increased the mRNA expressions of caspase-3, 8 and 9 in tumor tissues.
Showed Bcl-2 expression of the control group was higher than that of the carotenoid-treated group while the expression of Bax was lower than the carotenoid-treated group.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
