Methyl (Z)-ferulate blocks uredospores germination in rust fungi by reversibly inhibiting the digestion of the germination pore plug through the regulation of pre-existing enzyme activity. Methyl (Z)-ferulate also has antioxidant activity, effectively scavenging DPPH and ABTS + radical .
