Description

Magnesium sulfate is a calcium antagonist and a potent L-type calcium channel inhibitor, as well as a tocolytic. Magnesium sulfate has anti-inflammatory, anticonvulsant, vasodilatory, and neuroprotective effects. Magnesium sulfate can be used in the research of diseases such as preeclampsia/eclampsia[1][2][3][4][5][6].

In Vitro

Magnesium sulfate (3 mM) inhibits phosphatidylinositol-4,5-bisphosphate-specific phospholipase C activity and subsequent calcium release in cultured myometrial cells[2].
Magnesium sulfate (20 mM; 6 h) inhibits the LPS (HY-D1056)-induced inflammatory molecules production and NF-κB activation in RAW264.7 cells[3].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Real Time qPCR[3]

Cell Line: RAW264.7 cells treated with 100 ng/mL of LPS (HY-D1056)
Concentration: 20 mM
Incubation Time: 6 h
Result: Inhibtied the levels of iNOS and COX-2.
In Vivo

Magnesium sulfate (intraperitoneal injection; 270 mg/kg, followed by 27 mg/kg every 20 minutes for 4 hours, and then an additional 270 mg/kg) reduces LPS (HY-D1056)-induced inflammation-associated brain injury in fetal mice[4].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: CD-1 out-bred timed pregnant mice, and intrauterine inflammation was induced by intrauterine injection of LPS (HY-D1056) on embryonic day 15[4]
Dosage: 270 mg/kg, followed by 27 mg/kg every 20 minutes for 4 hours, and then an additional 270 mg/kg
Administration: Intraperitoneal injection
Result: Prevented LPS-induced neuronal injury in fetal mouse brains, as evidenced by maintaining normal neuronal morphology, including dendritic processes and MAP2 staining, without significantly affecting the expression of proinflammatory cytokines or cell death markers.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
