Background

RbAP48 is a core histone-binding subunit that may target chromatin assembly factors, chromatin remodeling factors, and histone deacetylases (HDACs) to their histone substrates in a nucleosomal DNA-regulated manner. It is a component of the chromatin assembly factor 1 (CAF-1) complex, which is involved in chromatin assembly following DNA replication and repair. RbAP48 is also part of the core histone deacetylase (HDAC) complex, promoting histone deacetylation and transcriptional repression. Additionally, it participates in the nucleosome remodeling and histone deacetylase (NuRD) complex, facilitating transcriptional repression through histone deacetylation and nucleosome remodeling. RbAP48 is also a component of the PRC2 complex, which represses homeotic genes during development, and the NURF (nucleosome remodeling factor) complex.
