Description

Yeast extract is a concentrate of the soluble components of yeast, especially Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Yeast extract is rich in nutritional components such as partially hydrolyzed proteins, free amino acids, B vitamins, and minerals. As a food ingredient, Yeast extract has both nutritional and flavoring properties. Yeast extract can also promote wound healing[1][2][3].

In Vitro

Yeast extract (0.1-1.0%; 24-72 h) promotes rapid growth and increases the percentage of viable cells in R. japonicum (CB 1809), R. lupini (WU 425), R. meliloti (SU 47), R. trifolii (TA1), and a cowpea strain (CB 756)[1].

In Vivo

Yeast extract (0.05 mL, 1.1 mg/mL; topical application; 5 days) promotes wound healing in diabetic mice[2].

Animal Model: Genetically diabetic (C57BL/KsJ-db/db) mice and their nondiabetic littermates with full-thickness wounds[2]
Dosage: 0.05 mL, 1.1 mg/mL
Administration: Topical application; 5 days
Result: Significantly accelerated wound closure and improved the degree of cellular reorganization of full-thickness excisional wounds in diabetic mice.
Improved wound healing in diabetic mice, with more inflammatory cells, fibroblasts, and angiogenesis, and complete reepithelialization and rich granulation tissue formation.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
