Background

PAD6 is a structural constituent of cytoplasmic lattices, playing a key role in early embryonic development. Cytoplasmic lattices are fibrous structures found in the cytoplasm of oocytes and preimplantation embryos, essential for storing maternal proteins critical for embryonic development, such as ribosomal proteins and proteins involved in epigenetic reprogramming of the preimplantation embryo, while preventing their degradation or activation. Unlike other family members, PAD6 lacks protein-arginine deiminase activity due to its inability to bind Ca2+. by similar: Function and composition of cytoplasmic lattices.
