Background

NUP50 is a component of the nuclear pore complex that plays a direct role in nuclear protein import. It actively displaces nuclear localization signals (NLSs) from importin-alpha and facilitates the disassembly of the importin-alpha:beta-cargo complex, promoting importin recycling. Additionally, NUP50 interacts with cell cycle regulatory proteins, including CDKN1B (by similar), and this interaction is required for proper intracellular transport and degradation of CDKN1B (by similar).
