The Histatin-3/HTN3 protein is a key salivary component and a major precursor in the formation of the enamel film on the tooth surface. In addition to its structural role, histatin-3 also exhibits antibacterial and antifungal activity, particularly through its His3-(20-43)-peptide (histatin-5). Histatin-3/HTN3 Protein, Human is the recombinant human-derived Histatin-3/HTN3 protein, expressed by E. coli , with tag free.

Background

Histatin-3/HTN3 Protein, a vital component of salivary proteins, plays a crucial role as a major precursor in the formation of the protective proteinaceous structure on tooth surfaces, known as the enamel pellicle. Beyond its structural function, histatin-3 exhibits notable antibacterial and antifungal activities, with its His3-(20-43)-peptide (histatin-5) demonstrating particular efficacy against C. albicans and C. neoformans, while also inhibiting Lys-gingipain and Arg-gingipain (rgpB) from P. gingivalis. This peptide additionally serves as a potent inhibitor of metalloproteinases MMP2 and MMP9. Intriguingly, the His3-(20-43)-peptide exists as a homodimer. Histatin-3, along with its His3-(20-43)-peptide counterpart, interacts with yeast SSA1 and SSA2 proteins, emphasizing its multifaceted roles in host defense and oral health.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.

  • Specific Activity Calculator

The reconstitution calculator equation

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration

Volume (to add to vial) = Mass (in vial) ÷ Desired Reconstitution Concentration
= ÷

The dilution calculator equation

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)

This equation is commonly abbreviated as: C1V1 = C2V2

Concentration (start) × Volume (start) = Concentration (final) × Volume (final)
× = ×
C1   V1   C2   V2

The specific activity calculator equation

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)

Specific Activity (Unit/mg) = 106 ÷ Biological Activity (ED50)
Unit/mg = 106 ÷ ng/mL
