Background

dapb2 is an exopeptidase that catalyzes the removal of dipeptide units (NH2-P2-P1-) from the free amino termini of oligopeptides and small proteins. Peptide digestion occurs sequentially with nonspecific substrate recognition, except that Pro is unsuitable as a P1 residue. It removes residues from bioactive oligopeptides like angiotensin I and neuromedin N, cleaves oxidized insulin B chain, and hydrolyzes X-Pro bonds (an imido bond) without endopeptidase activity. May play a physiological role in feeding. by similar: Additional studies suggest its substrate recognition may involve broader peptide structural features.
