It facilitates the rapid rolling of leukocytes over vascular surfaces during the initial stages of inflammation by interacting with E-, P-, and L-selectins through high affinity, calcium-dependent interactions. CD162/PSGL-1 Protein is essential for the initial capture of leukocytes. In addition to its role in inflammation, it also acts as a receptor for enterovirus 71 during microbial infection.
