Ubiquitin Antibody (YA5453) is a Mouse-derived and non-conjugated monoclonal antibody, targeting to Ubiquitin.

Ubiquitin K48 exists either covalently attached to other proteins or in a free (unanchored) form. When covalently bound, it conjugates to target proteins via an isopeptide bond as a monomer (monoubiquitin), a polymer linked through different Lys residues (polyubiquitin chains), or a linear polymer linked via the initiator Met (linear polyubiquitin chains). Polyubiquitin chains attached to target proteins exhibit diverse functions depending on the linked Lys residue: Lys-6-linked chains may participate in DNA repair; Lys-11-linked chains are involved in ERAD (endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation) and cell-cycle regulation; Lys-29-linked chains contribute to proteotoxic stress response and cell cycle; Lys-33-linked chains play a role in kinase modification; Lys-48-linked chains mediate protein degradation via the proteasome; Lys-63-linked chains function in endocytosis, DNA-damage responses, and signaling processes leading to NF-kappa-B activation. Linear polymers formed via the initiator Met are involved in cell signaling. Ubiquitin typically conjugates to Lys residues of target proteins, though rare cases of Cys or Ser linkage have been observed. Free polyubiquitin (unanchored-polyubiquitin) also has distinct roles, such as protein kinase activation and signaling. Additionally, Ubiquitin K48 is a component of the 40S ribosomal subunit and part of the small subunit (SSU) processome, the first precursor of the eukaryotic ribosomal small subunit. During SSU processome assembly in the nucleolus, numerous ribosome biogenesis factors, an RNA chaperone, and ribosomal proteins associate with nascent pre-rRNA, collectively facilitating RNA folding, modifications, rearrangements, cleavage, and RNA exosome-mediated degradation of pre-ribosomal RNA.
