Rab6b is a small GTPase that serves as a key regulator of intracellular membrane trafficking, governing processes from vesicle formation to membrane fusion. It cycles between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states. In its active form, Rab6b drives vesicular carrier transport from donor to acceptor organelles to regulate membrane traffic that maintains organelle identity and morphology (by similar). It recruits VPS13B to the Golgi membrane and regulates the compact morphology of the Golgi. Rab6b appears to function in retrograde membrane trafficking at the Golgi complex level, potentially participating in retrograde transport in neuronal cells and playing a role in neuron projection development.
