Rab 25, a member of the Rab small GTPases family, serves as a key regulator of intracellular membrane trafficking, governing processes from vesicle formation to membrane fusion. It cycles between inactive GDP-bound and active GTP-bound states, with the latter recruiting downstream effectors to directly mediate vesicle formation, movement, tethering, and fusion (by similarity). This protein regulates epithelial cell differentiation, proliferation, and survival, playing pivotal roles in tumorigenesis (PubMed:17925226) and promoting invasive cell migration by localizing/maintaining integrin α-V/β-1 at pseudopodia tips (PubMed:17925226). It also modulates epithelial morphogenesis via CLDN4 expression and tight junction localization (by similarity), potentially regulates apical recycling pathways (by similarity), and coordinates transcytosis with MYO5B (by similarity).
