FNTA Protein serves as an essential subunit in both the farnesyltransferase and geranylgeranyltransferase complexes, playing a crucial role in transferring farnesyl or geranylgeranyl moieties to cysteine residues within proteins characterized by the C-terminal sequence Cys-aliphatic-aliphatic-X. This enzymatic activity contributes to the post-translational modification of various proteins. Moreover, FNTA may play a positive regulatory role in neuromuscular junction development, acting downstream of MUSK by facilitating the prenylation and activation of RAC1.
