Cytochrome P450 27A1 Antibody (YA2163) can be used for WB, IHC-P, ICC/IF, FC experiment in human, mouse, rat background.
Background	Cytochrome P450 27A1 is a cytochrome P450 monooxygenase that catalyzes regio- and stereospecific hydroxylation of cholesterol and its derivatives. It hydroxylates (with R stereochemistry) the terminal methyl group of cholesterol's side-chain in a three-step reaction to sequentially produce a C26 alcohol, aldehyde, and acid. This enzyme regulates cholesterol homeostasis by converting excess cholesterol to bile acids via both the 'neutral' (classic) and 'acid' (alternative) pathways, and may modulate lipid metabolism genes through active oxysterols (ligands for NR1H2/NR1H3 nuclear receptors). Similarly, it hydroxylates cholestanol, facilitating its diffusion across the blood-brain barrier for systemic degradation. Additionally, it hydroxylates pro-inflammatory 7-ketocholesterol, potentially aiding its clearance from retinal pigment epithelium, and redundantly catalyzes vitamin D3 25-hydroxylation (required for activation).
