Background

Collagen IV serves as the primary structural component of glomerular basement membranes (GBM), forming a 'chicken-wire' meshwork in conjunction with laminins, proteoglycans, and entactin/nidogen. Its C-terminal NC1 domain, known as Arresten, exhibits anti-angiogenic and anti-tumor properties, with the C-terminal half specifically inhibiting endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and tube formation.
