ApoC1 is a protein that inhibits the binding of lipoproteins to the low-density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor, LDL receptor-related protein, and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) receptor. It primarily associates with high-density lipoproteins (HDL) and triglyceride-rich lipoproteins in plasma, constituting approximately 10% of VLDL protein and 2% of HDL protein. ApoC1 directly interferes with fatty acid uptake and serves as the major plasma inhibitor of cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP). It binds free fatty acids, reducing their intracellular esterification, modulates the interaction of APOE with β-migrating VLDL, and inhibits the binding of β-VLDL to the LDL receptor-related protein.
