α-Amylase-IN-13 is an orally active, selective, brain-penetrant α-amylase inhibitor (IC50 = 0.71 μM). α-Amylase-IN-13 inhibits α-amylase through a mixed type of inhibition mechanism. α-Amylase-IN-13 leads to a significant reduction in blood glucose level in diabetic rats. α-Amylase-IN-13 causes significant histopathological improvements in the kidney, liver, and pancreas. α-Amylase-IN-13 can be used for the study of diabetic complications[1].

In Vivo

α-Amylase-IN-13 (Compound 5r) (10 mg/kg, oral gavage, once daily for 14 days) can effectively control Streptozotocin (HY-13753)-induced diabetes in rats and reduce complications[1].

Animal Model: Male Wistar rats (200–250 g body weight) after a 12-h fasting period, type 1 diabetes mellitus was induced intraperitoneally by IP injection of streptozotocin (STZ) at a dose of 55 mg/kg[1].
Dosage: 10 mg/kg
Administration: Oral gavage, once daily for 14 days
Result: Exhibited a notable decrease in blood glucose levels, indicating enhanced glycemic control.
