Handling Instructions Technical Support

Poloxamer 124 L44 is a block polymer of polyoxyethylene and polyoxypropylene and a hydrophobic surfactant. Poloxamer 124 L44 causes eye irritation and exhibits oral toxicity in albino rats with an LD50 of 5 g/kg. Poloxamer 124 L44 has reversible adverse effects on triglyceride and cholesterol transport in the lymphatic system of rats. Poloxamer 124 L44 can form thermoreversible hydrogels and is used as a food additive and as a drug delivery vehicle in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and tissue engineering[1][2][3].

Description

In Vivo

Poloxamer 124 (L44) (Pluronic L-81) (0.17 mg/mL, 3 mL/h; intragastrically, for 1 h) significantly reduces the transport of triglycerides and cholesterol and the export of phospholipids in the lymphatic system of rats, without affecting the digestive and absorptive functions of rats (the recovery rates of lipids and cholesterol in the intestinal lumen of rats do not change significantly). This indicates that Poloxamer 124 (L44) interferes with the assembly of lipoproteins and/or the excretion of lipoproteins from mucosal cells[3].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
