Description

Peptide5, a connexin 43 mimetic peptide, reduce animals swelling, astrogliosis, and neuronal cell death after spinal cord injury[1]

In Vitro

Peptide5, significantly reduces the degree of spinal cord injury (SCI) in a rodent ex vivo model. Peptide5 produces the more significant reduction in swelling and is analyzed further. Treatment with peptide5 reduced both the level of Cx43 and the number of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-positive astrocytes, and at the same time reduces the loss of NeuN- and SMI-32–positive neurons in a concentration- and time-dependent manner[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Peptide5 is could be used to treat traumatic spinal cord injured rats[1].

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
