Description

Methyl cellulose (MC) (Viscosity:15mPa.s) is a non-ionic cellulose ether with surface activity and thermogelation properties. Methyl cellulose (Viscosity:15mPa.s) is widely used as drug delivery agents, thickeners, stabilizers, emulsifiers, etc., in industries such as pharmaceuticals, food, cosmetics, and construction[1].

In Vivo

Methyl cellulose (0.5%; intraperitoneal injection/oral administration; twice weekly; 6 weeks) (Viscosity:15mPa.s) causes systemic tissue lesions via intraperitoneal injection, while oral administration exhibits good safety in CF-1 mice[1].
NOTE:
1. No solid-liquid separation occurs in the Methyl cellulose solution. The solution is uniformly transparent without particles.
2. Complete dissolution of Methyl cellulose may require 4 hours or longer.

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: CF-1 mice aged 3 weeks old (12-14 g) underwent corneal kindling (electrical stimulation to induce chronic seizures) or sham kindling (handling without stimulation)[1]
Dosage: 5%
Administration: Intraperitoneal (i.p.) or oral (p.o.) administration, twice weekly for 6 weeks
Result: Led to widespread accumulation of foam-laden macrophages in multiple tissues (kidney, liver, mesentery, aorta, choroid plexus) with associated inflammation and occasional tissue damage in both kindled and sham mice by i.p..
Caused no histologic lesions by p.o..
Had no significant effects on body weight, seizure stability, behavioral assessments (open field test), hematology, or serum biochemistry parameters.
CAS No.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
