In Vitro

Co(III) protoporphyrin IX chloride (0-25 μM; 2-16 hours) can upregulate the levels of HO-1 and Nrf2, and reduce the protein level of Bach1 in Huh-7 cells[1].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Western Blot Analysis[1]

Cell Line: Huh-7 cells
Concentration: 0, 0.5, 1, 5 and 10 μM
Incubation Time: 16 h
Result: Increased the levels of HO-1 and Nrf2 in a dose-dependent manner.
Inhibited the levels of Bach1 in a dose-dependent manner.
In Vivo

Co(III) protoporphyrin IX chloride (125 μmol/kg; subcutaneous injection; single dose) reduces hepatic cytochrome P450 levels in male rats, while inhibiting δ-aminolevulinate synthase activity and inducing heme oxygenase activity[2].
Co(III) protoporphyrin IX chloride (5 mg/kg; intraperitoneal injection; single dose) has an improving effect in a mouse model of hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury[3].
Co(III) protoporphyrin IX chloride (5 mg/kg; intraperitoneal injection; 6 times over 11 days) exhibits antibacterial activity in mice infected with Yersinia pestis[4].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Animal Model: C57BL/6J mice (25-30 g) with liver ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury[3]
Dosage: 5 mg/kg
Administration: Intraperitoneal injection; single dose
Result: Significantly reduced the increase in serum levels of AST and ALT induced by I/R injury.
Alleviated hepatocellular swelling and histopathological damage.
Increased the protein expression levels of HO-1 and Bcl-2, decreased the expression of caspase 3, and reduced the percentage of apoptotic hepatocytes compared with the I/R group.
Animal Model: C57BL/6 mice treated Yersinia pestis CO92[4]
Dosage: 5 mg/kg
Administration: Intraperitoneal injection; 24 h prior to challenge and on the day of challenge, additional treatments were provided every other day for the duration of the 10-day observation period
Result: Improved survival, increased the time to mortality, reduced pulmonary bacterial burden, and increased HO-1 levels in the lungs compared to vehicle-treated mice.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
