Description

Villin Antibody (YA5473) is a mouse-derived and non-conjugated monoclonal antibody, targeting to Villin. It can be applicated for WB, IHC-P assays, in the background of human, mouse, rat.

Background

VIL1 is an epithelial cell-specific Ca2+-regulated actin-modifying protein that modulates the reorganization of microvillar actin filaments. It plays roles in actin nucleation, actin filament bundle assembly, actin filament capping, and severing. This protein binds phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) and lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) with higher affinity for LPA. Binding to LPA increases its phosphorylation by SRC and inhibits all actin-modifying activities, while binding to PIP2 inhibits actin-capping and -severing activities but enhances actin-bundling. VIL1 regulates intestinal epithelial cell morphology, invasion, migration, and apoptosis, protecting against dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced apoptosis in the gastrointestinal epithelium, likely by maintaining mitochondrial integrity. It also enhances hepatocyte growth factor (HGF)-induced epithelial cell motility, chemotaxis, and wound repair. During S.flexneri infection, its actin-severing activity promotes actin-based bacterial motility and dissemination.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
