Polycomb Protein SUZ12 is a member of the Polycomb group (PcG) protein family and functions as a core component of the PRC2 complex. This complex mediates transcriptional repression of target genes (including HOXC8, HOXA9, MYT1, and CDKN2A) by catalyzing methylation of histone H3 at 'Lys-9' (H3K9me) and 'Lys-27' (H3K27me) residues. The PRC2 complex may also serve as a recruitment platform for DNA methyltransferases, thereby bridging histone modification and DNA methylation-based epigenetic repression systems.
