Background

KITLG is the ligand for the receptor-type protein-tyrosine kinase KIT, playing essential roles in regulating cell survival/proliferation, hematopoiesis, stem cell maintenance, gametogenesis, mast cell development/function, and melanogenesis. KITLG/SCF binding activates multiple signaling pathways: phosphorylating PIK3R1 (regulatory subunit of PI3K) to activate AKT1, transmitting signals via GRB2 to activate RAS/RAF1/MAPKs (MAPK1/ERK2 or MAPK3/ERK1), promoting STAT1/3/5 activation, and activating PLCG1 to generate secondary messengers diacylglycerol and IP3. KITLG/SCF acts synergistically with other cytokines (likely interleukins). by similar: Its functions partially overlap with growth factors like CSF1 and FLT3LG.
