Description

Raptor Antibody (YA5994) is a Rabbit-derived and non-conjugated IgG monoclonal antibody, targeting to Raptor.

Background

Raptor is a core component of the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1), an evolutionarily conserved central nutrient sensor that stimulates anabolic reactions and macromolecule biosynthesis to promote cellular biomass generation and growth. Upon nutrient/growth factor/amino acid stimulation, mTORC1 is recruited to lysosomal membranes and phosphorylates substrates like ribosomal protein S6 kinase (RPS6KB1/RPS6KB2) and EIF4EBP1 (4E-BP1) to enhance protein/lipid/nucleotide synthesis, while suppressing catabolic pathways via phosphorylation of autophagy initiators ULK1/ATG13 and transcription factor TFEB (a master regulator of lysosomal biogenesis and autophagy). Within mTORC1, RPTOR functions as both a molecular scaffold—mediating lysosomal recruitment through Rag GTPase (RagA/RRAGA etc.) interactions—and a substrate-specific adaptor that directs TOS motif-containing proteins to MTOR's kinase domain for phosphorylation. The complex is inhibited during starvation/amino acid depletion. Additionally, mTORC1 regulates processes such as odontoblast/osteoclast differentiation (by similar), and its role in excitatory neuronal transmission underlies the prosocial effects of the psychoactive drug LSD (by similar).

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
