Additionally, MEK-4 represses the cohesin-release factor WAPL, leading to global chromosomal architecture changes in pro-B cells that enable diverse antibody repertoire generation. In microbial infection contexts, MEK-4 maintains Epstein-Barr virus genome copy number by supporting EBNA1/oriP-dependent binding and transcription, while also inhibiting lytic EBV reactivation through modulation of viral BZLF1 activity.
