Lamin B2 is an intermediate filament protein that assembles into a filamentous meshwork and constitutes a major component of the nuclear lamina, a fibrous layer on the nucleoplasmic side of the inner nuclear membrane. Lamins provide a structural framework for the nuclear envelope, bridging it with chromatin, and play key roles in nuclear assembly, chromatin organization, nuclear membrane dynamics, and telomere regulation. The structural integrity of the lamina is tightly controlled by the cell cycle, as evidenced by the disintegration and reformation of the nuclear envelope during prophase and telophase, respectively.
