The LEDGF protein possesses various functions, including enabling DNA-binding transcription factor binding activity, chromatin binding activity, and transcription coactivator activity. It is involved in mRNA 5'-splice site recognition and positively regulates transcription by RNA polymerase II. This protein is found in heterochromatin, the nuclear periphery, and the nucleoplasm. It exhibits ubiquitous expression in the brain, ovary, and 24 other tissues, with relatively high expression levels in the brain and ovary.
