Background

L-FABP plays a role in lipoprotein-mediated cholesterol uptake in hepatocytes and binds cholesterol. It also binds free fatty acids and their coenzyme A derivatives, bilirubin, and other small molecules in the cytoplasm. By similarity, it may be involved in intracellular lipid transport.
