Islet 1 Antibody (YA4121) is a mouse-derived and non-conjugated IgG1 antibody, targeting to ISL1. It can be applicated for IHC-P, ICC/IF, ELISA assays, in the background of human, mouse, rat, rabbit.

ISL1 is a DNA-binding transcriptional activator that recognizes and binds to the consensus octamer binding site 5'-ATAATTAA-3' in the promoters of target genes. It plays a fundamental role in the gene regulatory network essential for retinal ganglion cell (RGC) differentiation, cooperating with the transcription factor POU4F2 to achieve maximal expression of RGC target genes and specify RGC fate in the developing retina. Additionally, ISL1 is involved in motor neuron specification (by similar) and functions in cooperation with LHX3 and LDB1 (by similar). It also binds to insulin gene enhancer sequences (by similar). ISL1 is essential for heart development and serves as a marker for a progenitor cell population that contributes to the outflow tract, right ventricle, a subset of left ventricular cells, and numerous atrial cells. Its function is required for these progenitors to properly contribute to heart formation. ISL1 controls the expression of FGF and BMP growth factors in this cell population and is necessary for the proliferation and survival of cells in the pharyngeal foregut endoderm and adjacent splanchnic mesoderm, as well as for the migration of cardiac progenitors into the heart (by similar).
