Background

GOT2 is an enzyme that catalyzes the irreversible transamination of the L-tryptophan metabolite L-kynurenine to form kynurenic acid (KA). As a component of the malate-aspartate shuttle, it plays a pivotal role in maintaining intracellular NAD(H) redox balance. This enzyme is essential for metabolite exchange between mitochondria and cytosol, as well as for amino acid metabolism, and facilitates cellular uptake of long-chain free fatty acids.
