Fascin is an actin-binding protein that contains two major actin binding sites. It organizes filamentous actin into parallel bundles and plays a role in the arrangement of actin filament bundles, as well as the formation of microspikes, membrane ruffles, and stress fibers. Fascin is essential for the formation of various cell protrusions, such as filopodia, and for cell motility and migration. Additionally, it mediates the reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton and promotes axon growth cone collapse in response to NGF. By similar studies, Fascin has been shown to have broad functions in cytoskeletal dynamics regulation.
