CD48 is a Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface glycoprotein that interacts with receptors such as CD244/2B4 or CD2 via its N-terminal immunoglobulin domain to modulate immune cell function and activation. It participates in T-cell signaling by associating with CD2 and recruiting the Src family kinase LCK and LAT to the TCR/CD3 complex, thereby promoting LCK phosphorylation and downstream activation.
