CD276 is a protein that may participate in regulating T-cell-mediated immune responses. It potentially plays a protective role in tumor cells by inhibiting natural killer cell-mediated lysis and serves as a marker for detecting neuroblastoma cells. Additionally, CD276 might be involved in acute and chronic transplant rejection and regulate lymphocytic activity at mucosal surfaces. It could also play a key role in maintaining a suitable immunological environment for the placenta and fetus during pregnancy. Both isoform 1 and isoform 2 appear functionally redundant in modulating CD4 T-cell responses, while isoform 2 enhances cytotoxic T-cell induction and selectively stimulates interferon gamma production in the presence of T-cell receptor signaling.
