BPR (BCL2L12, BCL2-like 12) is a promising molecular prognostic biomarker in breast cancer. BCL2-like 12 (BCL2L12) is a novel member of the BCL2 family of apoptosis-related genes located on chromosome 19q13.3, a genomic region harboring many cancer-related genes such as the KLK gene family, the CEACAM/PSG cluster, and the gene encoding the urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR). BCL2L12 mRNA expression has been studied in both solid tumors and hematological malignancies, with encouraging results regarding its potential as a tumor marker. In breast cancer (BC), preliminary PCR data suggest this apoptosis-related gene serves as a favorable prognostic marker for BC patients' DFS and OS. This study aimed to validate the prognostic value of BCL2L12 in BC by developing and applying a sensitive quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) methodology to analyze BCL2L12 expression in a large cohort of BC patients. To our knowledge, this is the first study examining BCL2L12 gene expression in breast carcinoma tissues using this methodology.
