Additionally, it facilitates cholesterol efflux from macrophage cells and is detected in HDL, LDL, and VLDL. ApoO is secreted via a microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTTP)-dependent mechanism, likely as a VLDL-associated protein that is later transferred to HDL. by similar functions include its role in cholesterol metabolism and lipoprotein transport.
