Background

alpha Internexin is a class-IV neuronal intermediate filament capable of self-assembly and involved in neuronal morphogenesis. It can either form an independent structural network or cooperate with NEFL to create the filamentous backbone for NEFM and NEFH cross-bridge attachment, and may also collaborate with the neuronal intermediate filament protein PRPH to establish filamentous networks (by similar).
