Background

alpha COP I is a component of the coatomer complex, which binds to dilysine motifs and reversibly associates with Golgi non-clathrin-coated vesicles to mediate protein transport from the ER through the Golgi to the trans Golgi network. The coatomer complex is required for Golgi membrane budding and essential for the retrograde transport of dilysine-tagged proteins from the Golgi to the ER. In mammals, coatomer recruitment is restricted to membranes associated with ADP-ribosylation factors (ARFs), and the complex also maintains Golgi structural integrity while regulating the processing, activity, and endocytic recycling of LDL receptors (by similar). Additionally, xenin stimulates exocrine pancreatic secretion, inhibits pentagastrin-stimulated acid secretion, and modulates intestinal motility by interacting with the neurotensin receptor in the gut.
