Background

Aldehyde dehydrogenase 10 (ALDH10) is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of medium to long-chain aliphatic aldehydes (6-24 carbons in length) to their corresponding fatty acids, exhibiting activity towards both saturated and unsaturated substrates. Notably, it plays a specific role in sphingolipid metabolism by converting hexadecenal, a degradation product of sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P), into hexadecenoic acid.
