Background

ADAMTS13 (A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase with ThromboSpondin type 1 repeats, member 13) is a vital enzyme that plays a critical role in regulating blood clotting by cleaving von Willebrand factor (vWF) multimers in plasma. By cleaving these multimers into smaller forms, ADAMTS13 effectively controls vWF-mediated platelet thrombus formation. This cleavage action is essential for preventing excessive platelet aggregation and the formation of abnormal blood clots, contributing to the maintenance of normal hemostasis. Dysregulation or deficiency of ADAMTS13 has been associated with conditions such as thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), highlighting the crucial role of this enzyme in preventing excessive and harmful blood clot formation (
