Background

ACSM3 catalyzes the activation of fatty acids by CoA to produce acyl-CoA, the initial step in fatty acid metabolism. It is capable of activating medium-chain fatty acids and shows a preference for isobutyrate among fatty acids with 2-6 carbon atoms (By similarity).
