Description

Allocholic acid is a typically fetal bile acid found in vertebrates and reappears during liver regeneration and carcinogenesis, besides it is also a conjugate acid of allocholate and an isomer of cholic acid. Allocholic acid is a potent and specific stimulant of the adult olfactory system, it has a role as a marine metabolite, a rat metabolite and a human metabolite[1][2][3].

In Vitro

Allocholic acid induces the bai operon and stimulates the conversion of [24-14C] cholic acid to [24-14C] allodeoxycholic acid in cultures of C. scindens and C. hylemonae allodeoxycholic acid[4].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

In Vivo

Allocholic acid is the major acidic biliary metabolite of cholestanol in the rat and in the gerbil[5].
In the rat allolithocholic acid and allodeoxycholic acid undergo 7a-hydroxylation in the liver to provide allochenodeoxycholic and allocholic acids, respectively[5].

MedChemExpress (MCE) has not independently confirmed the accuracy of these methods. They are for reference only.

Help & FAQs
  • Do most proteins show cross-species activity?

Species cross-reactivity must be investigated individually for each product. Many human cytokines will produce a nice response in mouse cell lines, and many mouse proteins will show activity on human cells. Other proteins may have a lower specific activity when used in the opposite species.
