Steroid Sulfatase

Steroid Sulfatase

Steroid sulfatase (STS) is a glycosylated protein with an apparent molecular weight of about 63–73 kDa. STS catalyzes the hydrolysis of the sulfate esters of 3-hydroxy steroids, which are inactive transport or precursor forms of the active 3-hydroxy steroids. STS can cleave estrone sulfate (E1S) and DHEA sulfate (DHEAS). STS is a potential target for the treatment of hormone-dependent diseases[1].
