Galactokinase

Galactokinase; GALK; GAL; GALK1; GAL1

Galactokinase is a key enzyme involved in galactose metabolism, mainly responsible for phosphorylating galactose to galactose-1-phosphate. Galactokinasedysfunction leads to metabolic disorders such as the autosomal recessive genetic disease galactosemia, in which abnormal metabolized galactose and its metabolite accumulates in the body, causing probably intellectual disability, liver dysfunction and cataracts[1].
