KSHV K8α is a receptor that constitutively signals through several pathways, including PI3K/AKT and mitogen- and stress-activated/MAP kinases. It promotes host cell proliferation and survival, modulates cell migration, stimulates angiogenesis, and recruits inflammatory cells in both expressing and neighboring cells. By interacting with host CADM1, KSHV K8α maintains chronic activation of NF-kappa-B.
